As a photographer, Canadian Edward Burtynsky has held a visual fascination with the world’s addiction to oil. From its extraction, consumption and afterlife, Burtynsky has documented the way we live with oil and its impact on our culture and environment. This past summer, Burtynsky traveled to the Gulf of Mexico to photograph the Deep Water Horizon oil spill and its polluted fallout. These images maintain his signature, merging beauty with the ugliness of our inhuman addiction. Edward’s work will be shown at the Metivier Gallery in Toronto through October 9th.
