The Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania is host to a new modern tree house resting 50 feet above the forest floor. Tree Adventure is a sprawling, 450′ walkway suspended in the canopy that gives its visitors a birds-eye view of the forest below. The design, created by Metcalfe Architecture and Design, features a modern shelter at its center, a man-made bird’s nest, long, angular walkways and a canopy net where visitors can relax above the forest....

He cleanly gutted the full interior, from the yellow line to the back gate, and in this naked frame he built a functional living environment. The Tula House by Patkau Architects is a living gallery of sorts, a green-roofed dwelling designed to celebrate the scenery beyond. Tula House is effectively an exercise in frontier modernism. It is a large dwelling, spanning 4,350 square feet, constructed without access roads that connect to the island. Every bit of material that wasn’t sourced on the island was carried by boat and assembled on site. Materials aside, even its construction process required special precision....
The Washington Metro We contend that the Washington Metro is the most iconic and visually progressive subway system in the United States. First built in 1976, this 100-mile network of tunnels includes 28 stations, most of which are the work of architect Harry Weese. These massive, concrete caverns feature an egg carton texture that stretches from one side to the other in a split cylinder design. The walls are out of reach, there are no thick pillars breaking up the view and the whole expanse is awash in indirect light....

Jonas Lindvall’s design of the Villa M2 in Malmo, Sweden may be an exercise in contemporary minimalism, but it is the details of his work which have us drooling. While most of the home appears stark and simple at first glance, we love the little details– like the skylight above the bed, the recessed, hidden lighting, and the floor-to-ceiling windows that collapse into the open space outdoors. The structure of the Villa M2 is angular and asymmetrical, an L-shaped design with structural offshoots like a bedroom box that juts out over the patio below....
